In March 2003, David moved from Scotland to Richmond, the home town of his wife Lesley, and in May 2003 they took over one of the industrial units on the Gallowfields Trading Estate where together they embarked on their exciting new business venture.
Early research of the area showed that there was little, if any, steel fabrication facilities making Droy Metalworkers ideally placed to meet the varied needs of other businesses in the region.
In addition to commercial steel work, David is a craftsman creating a wide range of bespoke Wrought Iron designs for residential properties such as Gates, Fences and Balustrades.
With steady growth in the business, an apprentice was taken on in August 2004 who completed his modern apprenticeship in engineering in August 2007.
Popularity for David’s work has resulted in the need for expansion and in March 2008 the business moved to larger premises, at Gallowfields. This move enabled the business to introduce additional fabrication equipment and increase the range of services on offer which resulted in them being nominated for ‘Entrepreneurs of the Year’ in the Richmond District Council citizenship award where they were highly commended in the category.
